چکیده

A study has been conducted immediately and up to 18 (lays after the surgical production of complete heart block in dogs. Immediately after surgery cardiac output, coronary flow, and mean arterial pressure were reduced in rough proportion to the degree of bradveardia. In time, these measures began to return toward preoperative levels. Paralleling the diminished left ventricular work was a diminished left ventricular oxN-gen consumption with little consequent change in mnocardial efficiency. Small rises were detected in central venous pressure. At autopsy, the only unequivocal abnormality was myocardial hypertrophy which became measurable between 2 and 18 days after operation.

Circulatory dynamics and the effects of respiration during ventricular asystole in dogs with complete heart block.

• The need for a clearer understanding of the physiological changes accompanying acute ventricular asystole in complete heart block (Stokes-Adams syndrome) is especially important in view of the significant advances made in the therapy of this disorder.~ In addition, simulating this condition in the laboratory provides a unique approach to the study of eardiorespiratory dynamics and their inter...

Contractile adaptations preserving cardiac output predispose the hypertrophied canine heart to delayed afterdepolarization-dependent ventricular arrhythmias.

BACKGROUND In dogs, chronic complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) results in structural (biventricular hypertrophy) and electrical (delayed repolarization) remodeling, which predisposes the heart to torsade de pointes arrhythmias. We assessed the contractile alterations in the CAVB dog and tested the hypothesis that these adaptations increase delayed afterdepolarization (DAD)-dependent trigger...

Reflex Diuresis during Tachycardia in the Dog

Renal function and systemic hemodynamics were studied during rapid atrial pacing in dogs with complete heart block and in control dogs with normal atrioventricular conduction. Rapid atrial pacing in dogs with complete heart block produced no significant change in urine flow, sodium excretion, or systemic hemodynamics. In contrast, rapid cardiac pacing in control dogs produced progressive increa...

Effects of glucagon on atrioventricular conduction and ventricular automaticity in dogs.

The effects of glucagon, 50 |iig/kg, on atrioventricular (A-V) conduction and ventricular automaticity were studied in 14 dogs. Atrial pacing was used to control the heart rate. The His bundle electrogram was recorded, and the interval from the pacing impulse (P) to the His bundle spike (H), the P-H interval, was used as a measure of A-V conduction. Ventricular automaticity was estimated in fou...

The peripheral vascular response to severe exercise in untethered dogs before and after complete heart block.

The peripheral vascular response to severe exercise was studied in 11 healthy conscious dogs instrumented with Doppler ultrasonic flow probes on the mesenteric, renal, and iliac arteries, and miniature pressure gauges in the aorta. The response to severe exercise was restudied in six of these dogs after recovery from a second operation producing complete heart block by the injection of formalin...
